Monstera 'Thai Constellation'

  • The Monstera 'Thai Constellation' is a cultivated variety of the Monstera deliciosa. It is a tissue-cultured plant, meaning it was propagated in a laboratory setting to maintain its specific variegated pattern. Unlike the wild-type Monstera deliciosa native to the tropical forests of Central America, the 'Thai Constellation' is a man-made cultivar and does not have a natural habitat. It belongs to the Araceae family.

What makes the 'Thai Constellation' so special is its stable and consistent variegation. Its large, heart-shaped leaves are adorned with creamy-white or yellowish-white splotches and splashes that resemble a starry night sky—hence the name "Constellation.

Similar to other Monstera varieties, the 'Thai Constellation' can produce a flower, known as a spathe and spadix. This event is extremely rare for plants grown indoors. The flower consists of a creamy-white spathe (a modified leaf) that encloses a spadix (a spike of tiny flowers).

  • The 'Thai Constellation' requires bright, indirect light to maintain its striking variegation. Too little light will cause the plant to grow slowly and may result in less prominent variegation.

Water your plant when the top 2-3 inches of the soil feel dry. It's better to slightly underwater than to overwater. The plant is sensitive to constantly soggy soil. Ensure the pot has proper drainage holes.

Use a well-aerated, chunky, and well-draining aroid mix. A mixture of potting soil, orchid bark, perlite, and a small amount of activated charcoal is an excellent choice. This provides the good drainage and aeration that its roots need, preventing root rot.

The 'Thai Constellation' thrives in warm temperatures, ideally between 65°F and 85°F (18°C - 29°C). It should be protected from cold drafts and temperatures below 60°F (15°C) can cause damage.
