Haworthia cymbiformis f. variegata
-
This is the rare, variegated form of the "Cathedral Window" succulent. It forms a lush, boat-shaped rosette (cymbiformis literally means "boat-shaped"). What sets this variety apart is its brilliant variegation, ranging from pale lime green to nearly pure creamy white. Like its cousins, it features "fenestrated" leaf tips—clear, translucent windows that allow light to shine through the plant's body.
The parent species is native to the Eastern Cape of South Africa, where it often grows in large clumps along rocky cliffs. This variegated cultivar has been carefully selected by horticulturists to stabilize the beautiful white and yellow striping that makes it look like a living piece of marble.
In the warmer months, this Haworthia sends up a slender, wiry stalk reaching about 8–10 inches. It bears small, tubular white flowers with distinctive brownish-green midribs on the petals. While the flowers are modest, they add a delicate, airy feel to the plant's robust, fleshy appearance.
-
Bright Indirect Light. It loves light but is sensitive. Too much direct sun can "bleach" the white parts, while too little will make it lose its compact shape.
Gritty and Airy. A mix of 60% pumice or perlite and 40% organic cactus soil is perfect to prevent water retention.
The "Soak and Dry" method. Water deeply only when the soil is 100% dry. Avoid getting water trapped in the rosette to prevent rot. -
9 to 11. Keep indoors if your area experiences frost.
