Syngonium Merry
-
An evergreen perennial and a popular houseplant, known for its changing leaf shapes as it matures. It is a member of the tropical Aroid family. This particular variety, 'Merry', features large, thin, heart-shaped leaves with a striking color combination of dark green and red (or deep pink/burgundy), offering a vibrant, colorful display.
The parent species, Syngonium podophyllum, is native to Central and South America.
Syngoniums produce a spathe and spadix (typical of the Aroid family), but flowering is rare indoors, as the colorful foliage is the primary attraction.
-
Prefers bright, indirect light. Sufficient light is necessary to maintain the vibrant red/pink and green colors of the foliage. Avoid direct sun.
Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. Keep the soil consistently moist but ensure it is never soggy.
Thrives in a standard, well-draining potting mix.
Prefers warm indoor conditions, typically between 60°F and 80°F (15°C – 27°C). Protect from cold drafts.
This plant should be fertilized once per month during spring, summer and fall with diluted houseplant fertilizer.
Toxic if ingested (due to calcium oxalate crystals). Keep away from pets and children.s.
-
Suitable for outdoor growth in USDA Zones 10-12 (otherwise grown as a houseplant).
