Syngonium 'Albo Variegata'
-
A striking, highly sought-after cultivar in the tropical Araceae family (Arrowhead Vines). It is a climbing or trailing houseplant. This plant is coveted for its vibrant white and green foliage. The dramatic, random splotches of white variegation contrast sharply with the green, often covering large sections of the unique arrowhead-shaped leaves.
The species Syngonium podophyllum is native to tropical rainforests in Central and South America.
Syngoniums produce a spathe and spadix (typical of the Aroid family), but flowering is rare indoors and is not the plant's ornamental feature.
-
Prefers bright, indirect light. Ample bright light is crucial to maintain and enhance the white variegation. Too little light can cause the variegation to fade or turn green.
Water thoroughly when the top layer of soil begins to dry out. It prefers consistently moist, but not soggy, conditions.
Thrives in slightly acidic, well-draining soil. A standard potting mix amended with perlite or orchid bark works well.
Requires even, warm temperatures, ideally kept between 60°F and 80°F (15°C - 27°C).
This plant should be fertilized once per month during spring, summer and fall with diluted houseplant fertilizer.
Toxic if ingested (due to calcium oxalate crystals). Keep away from pets and children.
-
Suitable for outdoor growth in USDA Zones 10-12 (otherwise grown as a houseplant).
