Sempervivum 'Red Wings'

  • Sempervivum ‘Red Wings’ forms a large rosette with long, narrow leaves colored in shades of green and deep red. The leaf edges are lined with noticeable, hair-like cilia that give the plant a slightly fringed look. In bright sunlight, the red tones become richer, creating a strong contrast against the green base.
This variety grows actively in spring and summer and produces many offsets, often called “chicks,” around the base. Over time these offsets form a dense, spreading cluster. It grows best outdoors in full sun with gritty, well-draining soil. The offsets can be left to create a tidy mat or separated and replanted to grow new plants.

  • Filtered / Partial Sun, Full Sun.
Gritty, well-draining soil is essential. Use a cactus and succulent mix with 70%-80% mineral grit such as coarse sand, pumice, or perlite.

Water infrequently. Allow soil to dry out completely between waterings. Avoid letting water sit in the rosette to prevent rot.
