Sempervivum heuffelii 'Cherry Glow'

  •  Sempervivum heuffelii ‘Cherry Glow’ is a sweet and striking hens and chicks variety with a rich red rosette and a fresh green center that really draws the eye. Each leaf is edged with a fine fringe of cilia, adding soft texture to the bold color. As temperatures cool, the rosette deepens into darker purple tones, giving this plant beautiful contrast and strong winter appeal.

Sempervivum heuffelii come from mountainous regions of Eastern Europe and are known for being exceptionally tough. ‘Cherry Glow’, introduced by Smith, stands out for its bright color, clean form, and ability to look good year round in outdoor settings. Rather than spreading by runners, this variety produces offsets by dividing. Over time, the mother plant splits into new rosettes, forming a neat and balanced cluster. These rosettes can be left together to fill in naturally or carefully separated and transplanted. After several years, a mature rosette may bloom with yellow flowers and then fade, but its offsets will continue to grow and carry on the display.

  • Full sun to partial sun

Gritty, well-draining soil is essential. Use a cactus and succulent mix with 50%-70% mineral grit such as coarse sand, pumice, or perlite.

Water infrequently. Allow soil to dry out completely between waterings. Avoid letting water sit in the rosette to prevent rot.

Non-toxic to dogs, cats, and horses (Pet-friendly).

  • Zones 4-10
