Scindapsus Platinum Java
-
Unlike other Scindapsus varieties that have green leaves with silver spots, the Platinum Java is almost entirely silver. Its large, heart-shaped leaves possess a unique "shimmer" or "frost" that reflects light, giving the plant a metallic, high-end appearance. As it matures and is given a pole to climb, the leaves can grow significantly larger.
Native to the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia (specifically Java, Indonesia).
In its natural habitat, Scindapsus produce a spathe and spadix (similar to a Peace Lily), but it is extremely rare for this plant to flower indoors. It is almost exclusively grown for its stunning foliage.
-
Thrives in bright, indirect light. While it can tolerate lower light, the iconic silver sheen will be most vibrant in brighter spots. Avoid direct afternoon sun, which can scorch the delicate leaves.
Water when the top 50% of the soil is dry. Scindapsus are expressive; they will slightly curl their leaves when they are thirsty. Avoid overwatering, as they are susceptible to root rot.
Requires a well-draining, chunky potting mix. A blend of high-quality potting soil, orchid bark, and perlite is ideal to ensure oxygen reaches the roots.
Between 18°C and 29°C. Protect it from cold drafts and temperatures below 15°C.
This plant should be fertilized once during the growing season (spring/summer) with diluted houseplant fertilizer.
Toxic to pets and humans. Contains calcium oxalate crystals which cause irritation if ingested.
-
10-12 (primarily grown as an indoor houseplant).
