Pothos 'Shangri La'
-
The Pothos 'Shangri La' (Epipremnum aureum 'Shangri La') is a tropical, evergreen perennial vine and a cultivar of the classic Pothos (Epipremnum aureum), also commonly known as Sleeping Pothos, Spinach Pothos due to its unusual appearance.
The parent species, Epipremnum aureum, is native to the rainforests of Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands. 'Shangri La' is a cultivated selection, developed in Japan by Terunoworld.
The most distinctive feature is its dark green, heart-shaped leaves that do not fully unfurl or flatten. Instead, they remain tightly curled, crinkled, and almost twisted, giving the plant a dense, textured, almost "sculptural" appearance, similar to steamed spinach. This is why it is often nicknamed the "Sleeping Pothos." The foliage may also have light, sporadic golden or cream-colored variegation.
-
Bright, indirect light is ideal for maintaining the most vibrant growth and any variegation. It can tolerate medium and even lower light conditions, but growth will slow, and its leaves may lose some unique texture and color.
Water moderately. Allow the top 1 to 2 inches (2.5-5 cm) of soil to dry out completely between waterings.
A well-ddraining potting mix is essential to prevent root rot.
This plant thrives in warm, indoor environments between of 65 °F- 85 °F.
