Pilea 'Aluminum'
-
The Pilea ‘Aluminum’ is a striking, low-growing tropical plant famous for its shimmering, metallic foliage. Its unique appearance makes it look almost artificial or hand-painted, providing a high-contrast look that brightens up any indoor plant collection.
The "magic" of this plant is in its textured leaves. Each leaf features raised, silvery-metallic patches between the green veins, looking exactly as if someone splashed it with aluminum paint. It grows in a neat, shrubby clump, reaching about 12 inches in height, making it perfect for terrariums or small shelf spaces.
While grown primarily for its foliage, it does produce flowers. The blooms are small, off-white to pale green, and grow in tiny clusters (cymes). They are relatively inconspicuous and lack the dramatic flair of the leaves, but they add a delicate texture to the plant when they appear.
-
Bright, indirect light. Too much direct sun will scorch the metallic patches; too little light makes the plant "leggy."
Keep consistently moist. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. It is sensitive to drought and will wilt quickly if left dry.
Well-draining potting mix. A standard high-quality indoor soil mixed with a bit of perlite or sand works best.
60°F – 75°F (15°C – 24°C). It loves stable room temperatures and dislikes cold drafts.
Non-toxic to cats and dogs, making it a great pet-friendly choice.
