Philodendron 'Silver Sword'
-
The Philodendron 'Silver Sword' is a rare and breathtaking aroid known for its sleek, metallic foliage. If you want a plant that looks like it was forged from sterling silver, this is the one for your collection.
This species, Philodendron hastatum, is famous for its distinctive "sword-shaped" leaves. Unlike many philodendrons that remain deep green, the Silver Sword boasts a stunning metallic, blue-silver sheen that reflects light beautifully.
What makes this plant truly unique is its ontogeny (how it changes as it grows). As a juvenile, the leaves are small and heart-shaped. However, as the plant matures and begins to climb, the leaves elongate into narrow, pointed "swords" with prominent lobes at the base, looking increasingly dramatic and architectural.
-
Bright, Indirect Light. To keep that metallic silver color vibrant, give it plenty of light. Too little light will cause the leaves to turn a duller green.
Well-Draining Aroid Mix. Prefers a "chunky" soil with orchid bark, perlite, and charcoal to prevent the roots from sitting in water.
Moderate. Water when the top 50% of the soil is dry. It is slightly more sensitive to overwatering than the common Heartleaf Philo.
Ideal: 65°F–85°F (18°C–29°C). It loves humidity! If your home is dry, consider a pebble tray or a humidifier.
