Philodendron 'Dragon Tail'

  • Philodendron 'Dragon Tail' is a fast-growing, evergreen perennial aroid vine known for its distinctive leaves.

Juvenile leaves are simple and elliptical, but as the plant matures and climbs, its leaves dramatically develop deep, beautiful splits (fenestrations) that resemble a dragon's tail. It uses aerial roots to climb.

  • Bright, indirect light is ideal for fastest growth and leaf splitting. It can tolerate medium or even low light, but growth will slow, and leaves may remain smaller and less fenestrated.

Water regularly, allowing the top 1-3 inches of soil to dry out between waterings. The soil should be kept slightly moist but never soggy. Reduce watering in winter.

Well-draining, rich, and airy potting mix is crucial.

It prefers temperatures between 60°F and 80°F (15°C to 26°C).

  • USDA Zone 10a-12

    USDA Zone 9b: to -3.8 °C (25 °F)

    USDA Zone 10a: to -1.1 °C (30 °F)

    USDA Zone 10b: to 1.7 °C (35 °F)

    USDA Zone 11: above 4.5 °C (40 °F)
