Peperomia Thailand
-
The Peperomia 'Thailand' is a sophisticated, compact cultivar of the beloved Radiator Plant family. Characterized by its sturdy, upright growth and lush, succulent-like foliage, this variety is highly prized by collectors for its thick, jade-colored leaves and "bulletproof" nature. It is the ideal choice for those who want the lush look of a tropical plant with the low-maintenance needs of a succulent.
While this specific cultivar is bred for the nursery trade, its parent species are native to the tropical rainforests of Central and South America, where they grow as epiphytes on the forest floor and tree branches.
Like most Peperomias, the 'Thailand' variety produces unique, non-traditional flowers. They appear as slender, greenish-white spikes (botanically known as inflorescences) that resemble a "rat-tail." While they lack colorful petals, these spikes offer a fascinating architectural contrast to the round, fleshy leaves.
-
Bright, indirect light. It thrives in dappled sunlight. Avoid direct afternoon sun, which can burn the thick leaves.
Low to Moderate. Allow the soil to dry out almost completely between waterings. Its thick leaves act as water reservoirs.
Chunkier is better. Use a well-draining potting mix, such as a blend of potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark.
18°C – 27°C (65°F – 80°F). It enjoys standard household warmth but should be kept away from cold window drafts.
This plant should be fertilized once during the growing season (spring/summer) with diluted houseplant fertilizer.
Non-toxic! Completely safe for households with cats, dogs, and children.
-
Zones 10-11. Best treated as an indoor plant in most regions.
