Peperomia 'San Marino'
-
The Peperomia 'San Marino' is a highly desirable cultivar in the Peperomia family, cherished for its unique, deeply textured foliage that brings a touch of elegant sophistication to any indoor setting.
This variety features distinct, deeply textured, heart-shaped leaves with a wonderfully rippled or corrugated surface. The foliage has a cool, soothing silver-green color offset by darker green veins, giving it a soft, appealing metallic sheen. Its growth habit is compact and mounded, making it an excellent, tidy tabletop plant.
Like many Peperomia varieties, the 'San Marino' produces non-traditional, slender, upright flower stalks that resemble green or cream-colored "rat tails" or spikes. While not visually showy like a typical bloom, they add a curious, architectural element to the plant's texture, typically appearing during warmer months.
-
Bright, Indirect Light. This is ideal for maintaining the compact shape and vibrant leaf color. It can tolerate lower light, but growth may be slower and the color less pronounced. Avoid direct, intense sun, which can scorch the leaves.
Water Moderately. Allow the top inch or two of soil to dry out between waterings. Peperomias have semi-succulent stems and leaves that store water, making them slightly drought-tolerant but susceptible to overwatering and root rot.
Needs a well-aerated, well-draining potting mix. A standard indoor potting mix amended with perlite or fine orchid bark is a good choice to ensure quick drainage.
Frost thrives in normal room temperatures (between 65°F-80°F) and humidity (40-50%). You can mist your plant and use a humidifier when the environment is too dry (humidity level falls below 40%).
This plant should be fertilized once during the growing season (spring/summer) with diluted houseplant fertilizer.
-
Typically Zones 10-12. Grown strictly as an indoor plant in most regions.
