Parodia erubescens Cactus

  •  Parodia erubescens, formerly known as Notocactus schlosseri, is a compact, globe-shaped cactus native to Uruguay. It grows low and rounded, with a tidy structure made up of about 22 clearly defined ribs. Each rib is lined with sharp, copper-toned spines that form a dense, almost glowing layer over the plant’s surface, giving it a bold and slightly rugged look.

As the plant matures, it can reach around 7 inches tall and about 4 inches wide, keeping its classic ball cactus shape. In late spring, it produces glossy yellow flowers that can grow up to 2 inches across. These bright blooms sit nicely on top of the spiny body, creating a striking contrast between the soft shine of the flowers and the rich, metallic spines below.

  • Bright Indoor Light, Full Sun.
Gritty, well-draining soil is essential. Use a cactus and succulent mix with 50%-70% mineral grit such as coarse sand, pumice, or perlite.

Water infrequently. Allow soil to dry out completely between waterings.
