Monstera 'Dubia' (Shingle Plant) - Live Plants

  • The Monstera 'Dubia,' commonly known as the Shingle Plant, is a captivating and unique member of the Monstera family. This plant is native to the tropical rainforests of Central and South America, where it creeps up the trunks of trees, clinging with its aerial roots.

The most special feature of the Monstera 'Dubia' is its dimorphic growth habit (two forms). It is best displayed when given a flat wooden plank or moss pole to climb. Attaching the aerial roots and allowing the plant to climb will encourage the stunning, juvenile "shingling" pattern and is the only way to eventually trigger the transition to its magnificent, large, fenestrated adult leaves.

  • Prefers bright, indirect light.

Water when the top 1-2 inches (2-5 cm) of soil feels dry. Keep soil consistently moist but never soggy. Ensure the pot has excellent drainage.

Must be rich in organic matter but extremely well-draining to prevent root rot. Use a mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir/peat moss.

It prefers temperatures between 65°F and 85°F (18°C to 29°C).

  • USDA Zone 9-11

    USDA Zone 9b: to -3.8 °C (25 °F)

    USDA Zone 10a: to -1.1 °C (30 °F)

    USDA Zone 10b: to 1.7 °C (35 °F)

    USDA Zone 11: above 4.5 °C (40 °F)
