Mammillaria elongata 'Copper King'
-
Mammillaria elongata ‘Copper King’ is a slender, upright cactus with cylindrical stems covered in dense, short copper-colored spines. The warm metallic tone of the spines gives the plant a glowing look in bright light. Each stem can grow up to about 6 inches tall, and the plant freely produces offsets, forming tight, cushion-like clusters over time.
This cactus grows steadily and expands by producing many new stems at the base. In the blooming season, it can produce small flowers in shades of white, pale yellow, or soft pink that form a delicate ring near the top of the stems. It is easy to propagate by separating the offsets and replanting them in well-draining soil. -
Bright Indoor Light, Full Sun.
Gritty, well-draining soil is essential. Use a cactus and succulent mix with 70%-80% mineral grit such as coarse sand, pumice, or perlite.
Water infrequently. Allow soil to dry out completely between waterings. Avoid letting water sit in the rosette to prevent rot.
