Hoya Chouke
-
The Hoya cv. 'Chouke' is a delightful hybrid that perfectly balances the hardy nature of its parents with a dainty, elegant aesthetic. If you love the look of the famous Hoya 'Mathilde' but want a plant with slightly more elongated, velvety foliage, 'Chouke' is your perfect match.
Hoya 'Chouke' is a cultivated hybrid (cross) between Hoya carnosa and Hoya serpens. While its parent species are native to East Asia and the Himalayas, this specific cultivar was created by humans to capture the best of both worlds: the vigorous growth of the carnosa and the adorable, small-leaf charm of the serpens.
The blooms are a highlight! It produces clusters of fuzzy, star-shaped white flowers with a striking pink/orange center. They are famously fragrant, smelling like a sweet mix of honey and spice, and typically last about 4-5 days.
Like most members of the Hoya family, 'Chouke' is non-toxic to cats and dogs, making it a safe choice for pet-friendly homes.
-
Bright, indirect light. It can handle some dappled morning sun, which encourages more silver splashing.
Low to Moderate. Allow the soil to dry out almost completely between waterings. It is prone to root rot if overwatered.
Requires a very airy, well-draining mix. An "Aroid" or "Hoya" mix with bark, perlite, and charcoal is best.
Prefers 60°F to 80°F (15°C - 27°C). It enjoys slightly cooler nights than some tropical Hoyas but should be kept above 50°F.
This plant should be fertilized once during the growing season (spring/summer) with diluted houseplant fertilizer.
-
Zones 10-11 (Grown strictly as an indoor houseplant in most regions).
