Hoya Carnosa 'Chelsea'

  • The Hoya Carnosa ‘Chelsea’ is a darling of the Hoya world, loved for its distinct, puckered foliage. The parent species, Hoya carnosa, is native to East Asia and Australia. It thrives in subtropical and tropical rainforests, where it grows as an epiphyte, climbing trees and rocks. The ‘Chelsea’ cultivar was specifically bred to accentuate the rounded, crinkled leaf shape that collectors adore.

A cultivar of the classic Wax Plant, ‘Chelsea’ features thick, succulent-like leaves that are slightly cupped or "dimpled," giving them a unique, quilted texture. With its deep emerald green color and semi-glossy finish, it is as much a foliage standout as it is a flowering wonder.

While many plants are fleeting, a Hoya ‘Chelsea’ can live for decades, becoming a family heirloom. Its thick, puckered leaves are more drought-resistant than other Hoyas, making it one of the most "set-it-and-forget-it" varieties for busy plant parents.

  • Bright, indirect light. To see those famous blooms and keep the leaves plump, give it plenty of bright light. It can even handle a small amount of soft morning sun.

Treat it like a succulent. Let the soil dry out almost completely between waterings. The thick leaves store water, so it is very drought-tolerant.

    Use a well-draining mix.
