Graptoveria Cupid

  • The Graptoveria 'Cupid' (also known as Graptoveria 'Topsy Debbie') is a beautiful intergeneric hybrid between Graptopetalum and Echeveria. It features thick, spoon-shaped leaves that are distinctive for being incurved or "topsy-turvy" with a small point at the tip. This is a cultivated hybrid, specifically a mutation of the popular 'Debbie' variety. Its parentage traces back to the arid regions of Mexico and Central America.

Its most captivating feature is its "frosted" look, caused by a thick layer of epicuticular wax (farina). The color is a dreamy palette of muted lavender, dusty rose, and pale grey-blue, which intensifies into a vibrant pinkish-purple when the plant is "stressed" by sunlight or cool air.

In the spring and summer, it produces tall, slender stalks bearing clusters of small, star-shaped flowers.

  • Prefers bright, indirect light to full sun. In very hot climates, provide filtered afternoon shade to prevent leaf scorch.

Requires a gritty, fast-draining succulent mix. Use a blend of potting soil with plenty of perlite, pumice, or lava rock to ensure the roots stay dry.

Thrives between 65°F and 80°F (18°C–27°C). It appreciates a drop in temperature during the winter months to encourage its vibrant pink pigments.

Follow the "soak and dry" method. Water thoroughly only when the soil is completely dry to the touch. Be careful not to let water sit in the rosette, as the "Cupid" is particularly sensitive to crown rot.

Feed lightly once or twice during the growing season with a diluted, low-nitrogen fertilizer. Overfeeding can cause leggy growth and weaken the plant.

Generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs, making it a safe choice for pet owners.
