Fern 'Green Flame'
-
Its broad, succulent fronds stand upright and exhibit dramatic, irregular waves and ruffles along the edges - the signature "Green Flame" characteristic. Excellent as a houseplant or in a seasonal container on a porch or patio. Like many ferns, it contributes to cleaner indoor air quality.
Like its parent species, Microsorum punctatum, this fern variety is native to tropical and subtropical regions across Asia, Australia, and Africa.
As a fern, this plant does not produce traditional flowers. Ferns reproduce via spores, found on the undersides of the fronds.
-
Prefers bright, filtered sunlight. Avoid direct, harsh sun which can scorch the fronds. It can tolerate lower light but will grow best with ample indirect light.
Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. Ensure good drainage to prevent root rot.
Thrives in neutral to acidic, loose, richly organic soil. A well-draining indoor potting mix, possibly amended with orchid bark or perlite, is ideal.
Prefers warm, indoor conditions, typically between 60°F to 75°F (15°C to 24°C). Protect from cold drafts and extreme temperature changes.
This plant should be fertilized once per month during the growing season (spring/summer) with a diluted houseplant fertilizer.
Non-toxic to cats and dogs (Pet-friendly).
-
Suitable for outdoor growth in USDA Zones 9-11 (otherwise grown as a houseplant).
