Fern 'Bird's Nest Hurricane'

  • The Bird's Nest 'Hurricane' Fern (Asplenium antiquum 'Hurricane') is a unique cultivar of the classic Bird's Nest Fern. This relatively new variety is celebrated for its stunning, whirlwind growth habit, where the glossy green fronds twist and spiral as they emerge from the central rosette, creating a dynamic, rotating effect.

Like its parent species, this fern is native to the forests of East Asia. It is a fantastic choice for adding a touch of easy-care, air-purifying greenery to humid spaces like kitchens and bathrooms.

Like all ferns, the Bird's Nest 'Hurricane' does not produce flowers. It reproduces via spores, which appear as linear, fuzzy brown lines (sori) on the undersides of mature fronds.

  • Low to Medium Indirect Light. Prefers filtered or indirect light. Avoid direct sun, which can scorch the leaves.

Keep the soil consistently moist. Water around the edges of the pot, avoiding pouring water directly into the central 'nest' or crown, as this can cause rot.

    Warm. Prefers temperatures between 65°F – 75°F (18°C – 24°C). Protect from cold drafts.

Slow to Moderate. It grows slower than many other houseplants but will steadily increase in size.

This plant should be fertilized once per month during the growing season (spring/summer) with a diluted houseplant fertilizer.

Non-Toxic (Pet-Friendly). Safe for homes with pets and children.

  • Typically grown indoors, but thrives outdoors in USDA Hardiness Zones 10 -12.
