Croton 'Iceton'

  •   The Croton 'Iceton' is a striking, colorful tropical shrub known for its glossy, leathery leaves. This variety is celebrated for a brilliant color transition: new leaves often emerge bright yellow or lime green, gradually maturing into deep reds, burgundies, and dark greens. This vibrant palette adds a bold, contrasting element to any indoor or outdoor setting.

Crotons (Codiaeum variegatum) are native to the tropical forests of Southeast Asia and Oceania, particularly Indonesia, Malaysia, and Australia.

As a Croton, this gorgeous ornamental foliage plan effectively removes common airborne toxins and is a popular air-purifying houseplant for homes and offices.

While prized for its foliage, the Croton plant can produce small, insignificant white to yellowish flowers on long, slender stalks. However, these are generally inconspicuous and the plant's value lies entirely in its magnificent leaves.

  • Bright, Indirect Light is Essential. High light exposure is crucial for the leaves to develop their vibrant, contrasting colors. Low light will cause the plant to lose its variegation and revert to mostly green.

Keep the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out slightly before watering again. Do not let the plant sit in standing water. Reduced watering in winter.

Use a well-draining, peat-based potting mix. A standard indoor potting soil amended with perlite or coarse sand works well.

Prefers warm, stable temperatures between 60°F and 85°F (16°C–29°C). Avoid cold drafts or sudden temperature drops below 50°F (10°C), which can cause leaf drop.

This plant should be fertilized once per month during the growing season (spring/summer) with diluted houseplant fertilizer.

Croton plants contain a milky sap that can be irritating to the skin and mouth. Ingestion of the leaves or bark can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach distress. Keep out of reach of children and pets.

  • Typically Zones 10-12. Usually grown as a houseplant or tropical annual in cooler climates.
