Crassula ovata 'Ogre Ears' Jade
-
Crassula ovata ‘Ogre Ears’ is a fun and unusual jade plant with thick, tube-shaped leaves. Each leaf ends in a flared tip that often turns red, giving it a playful look similar to small ears or trumpets. The leaves are glossy green, and with good light the red coloring becomes stronger, making the plant even more eye-catching. As it grows, it develops a sturdy, branching form that looks a bit like a tiny tree.
This plant grows slowly but steadily and can live for many years. Over time, it can form a compact, shrub-like shape with a bonsai feel. Mature plants can be easily multiplied from stem cuttings, and the small white or dark dots sometimes seen on the leaves are natural pores, not a problem.
-
Filtered / Partial Sun, Low Indoor Light.
Gritty, well-draining soil is essential. Use a cactus and succulent mix with 50%-75% mineral grit such as coarse sand, pumice, or perlite.
Water infrequently. Allow soil to dry out completely between waterings. Avoid letting water sit in the rosette to prevent rot.
