Crassula multicava Fairy Crassula
-
Crassula multicava, charmingly known as the Fairy Crassula, is a moderate-sized, evergreen succulent. It features smooth, round, pitted leaves of deep forest green that can take on a bronze or reddish tint when exposed to sun or cold. It is a "carpeting" succulent, meaning it loves to spread out and create a lush, leafy mat.
This resilient plant hails from the mountainous regions of South Africa. Unlike many of its desert-dwelling cousins, the Fairy Crassula is often found in forested areas, which has granted it a superpower rare in the succulent world: it actually thrives in the shade.
The "Fairy" Magic: What makes this plant truly special is its versatility. It is the "utility player" of the garden—it works as a lush indoor hanging plant, a sturdy groundcover in the shade, or a filler in mixed arrangements. Additionally, it is incredibly easy to propagate; it often produces tiny plantlets directly on the flower stalks!
-
Partial shade to bright indirect light. It is one of the few succulents that performs well in lower light conditions.
Standard succulent mix. Prefers well-drained soil but is less picky about soil quality than other rare hybrids.
Moderate. Water thoroughly when the soil is dry. It is drought-tolerant but enjoys slightly more regular water than desert cacti. -
9 – 11. It is somewhat frost-tolerant compared to other Crassulas but should be protected from hard freezes.
