Clusia 'Princess' (Autograph Plant)
-
The Clusia 'Princess' is a cultivar of the species Clusia rosea, a vibrant, fast-growing evergreen shrub or small tree, typically grown as a bold, structural houseplant indoors.
This plant is native to the Caribbean and tropical regions of Central and South America (including areas like the Bahamas, Cuba, and Puerto Rico).
The most captivating feature of the Clusia is its common name, the Autograph Plant or Signature Tree. Its thick, leathery, glossy dark green leaves are so sturdy that you can scratch or etch a name, message, or design onto the surface. The mark remains visible as the leaf grows, leaving a "permanent" autograph until the leaf naturally falls off.
-
Bright, indirect light is ideal for optimal growth and color. It can tolerate medium light but growth may slow. Avoid prolonged, harsh direct midday sun, which can scorch the leaves.
Water regularly during the growing season (spring/summer). Allow the top 1-2 inches of soil to dry out between waterings.
Use a well-draining potting mix to prevent root rot.
This plant thrives in warm, indoor environments between of 65 °F- 85 °F.
