Cereus repandus 'Petra' Cactus

  • Cereus repandus 'Petra' or Cereus repandus f. monstrosus ‘Petra’ is a branching, column-shaped cactus with thick, knobby stems and a bold, sculptural form. Unlike the smooth, straight ribs of the normal species, this monstrose type grows in bumpy, irregular shapes that give it a rugged look. The stems are lined with coppery red spines, adding warm color and texture to the plant.
This cactus grows steadily and becomes denser as it matures. When mature, it can produce large flowers in shades of white and red, followed by sizable reddish fruits that resemble small apples. It is mainly admired for its unusual growth pattern and strong architectural presence rather than frequent flowering.

  • Bright Indoor Light, Full Sun.
Gritty, well-draining soil is essential. Use a cactus and succulent mix with 70%-80% mineral grit such as coarse sand, pumice, or perlite.

Water infrequently. Allow soil to dry out completely between waterings. Avoid letting water sit in the rosette to prevent rot.
