Calathea Rufibarba 'Furry Feather'

  • The Calathea Rufibarba, affectionately known as the 'Furry Feather' Calathea, is a tactile masterpiece in the world of houseplants. While many Calatheas are loved for their bold patterns, the 'Furry Feather' stands out for its unique physical texture and elegant, wavy leaves.

Unlike the slick, waxy leaves of most tropicals, the 'Furry Feather' is covered in tiny, hair-like cilia on its stems and the undersides of its leaves. This gives the plant a soft, velvet-like feel that is irresistible to touch. While the tops of the leaves are a soft, matte green, the undersides are a striking deep burgundy or purple. This creates a beautiful contrast as the plant grows and moves.

While grown primarily for foliage, it can occasionally produce small, yellow-to-white flowers at the base of the stems. They are often tucked away near the soil line and are a delightful surprise for a happy plant.

  • Prefers medium to bright indirect light. Avoid direct sun, as it will bleach the beautiful green leaves and cause crispy edges.

Needs a moisture-retentive yet well-draining mix. A blend of high-quality potting soil, peat moss, and perlite works best.

Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. They are sensitive to tap water; using filtered or distilled water prevents leaf tip browning.

This Calathea plant thrives in temperatures of 65°F-75°F and grow well in normal room conditions. It does not tolerate temperatures below 60°F. Rosy needs a high humidity level (at least 60%). Use a humidifier and mist your plant if needed.

Thrives in temperatures between 18°C and 27°C (65°F-80°F). It loves high humidity - think "spa-like" conditions!

Non-toxic and pet-friendly! Safe for homes with curious cats and dogs.
  • Typically grown indoors; suitable for outdoor growth only in tropical Zones 10-12.
