Calathea Green Goddess

  • Calathea Green Goddess is an evergreen, rhizomatous perennial houseplant recognized for its large, rounded, and highly corrugated leaves. It belongs to the Marantaceae family, often referred to as a Prayer Plant. The Calathea genus originates from the humid, warm tropical rainforests of South America (specifically Brazil).

The uniqueness of the 'Green Goddess' lies in its magnificent texture and color. Its leaves are uniformly deep, rich green with a striking, highly ribbed or corrugated texture, giving the plant a dynamic, almost prehistoric appearance. The leaf undersides often feature a slightly paler green hue.

The Green Goddess is generally considered non-toxic (pet-safe) for common household pets like cats and dogs, making it a safe choice for any home.

  • Thrives in medium to bright, filtered light. Too much sun will scorch the leaves and cause color loss. Low light will slow growth considerably.

Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil just begin to dry out.

Use a light, aerated potting mix containing materials like perlite, orchid bark, or coconut coir to ensure good drainage while retaining moisture.

The plant prefers temperatures between 65°F and 80°F (18°C - 27°C). It is sensitive to cold drafts and temperatures below 60°F (15°C) can cause damage.

  • USDA Zone 10-12

    USDA Zone 9b: to -3.8 °C (25 °F)

    USDA Zone 10a: to -1.1 °C (30 °F)

    USDA Zone 10b: to 1.7 °C (35 °F)
