Bromeliad 'Yellow Pineapple'
-
The Bromeliad 'Yellow Pineapple' is a tropical flowering plant in the Bromeliad family (Bromeliaceae). This specific cultivar is the same species as the commercial pineapple, but is generally grown as an ornamental houseplant.
Its flower is an inflorescence (a spike of many small flowers) that fuses to form the recognizable pineapple. The small yellow fruit that develops is the primary ornamental feature. While technically edible (as it is Ananas comosus), the fruit on houseplant varieties is typically smaller and primarily decorative. The entire plant dies after fruiting, but not before producing "pups" (offsets) that can be propagated.
This plant is a known air purifier, noted in some studies for releasing oxygen and absorbing pollutants, making it a great addition to bedrooms.
-
Prefers bright, indirect light. Can tolerate some morning direct sun, but avoid harsh, prolonged afternoon sun which can scorch the leaves. Insufficient light may hinder fruit production.
Water the soil thoroughly and then allow the top inch or two of soil to dry out completely between waterings.
Requires a very well-draining potting mix.
This plant thrives in warm, indoor environments between of 65 °F- 85 °F.
