Bromeliad Cyanea 'Pink Quill'

  • The Pink Quill is a unique perennial belonging to the Bromeliad family. It features a rosette of slender, recurved green leaves that provide a lush, grassy base for its spectacular centerpiece: a large, flattened floral bract. The most distinctive feature of the Wallisia cyanea is its bright pink, fan-shaped plume (the "quill"). While the pink structure is actually a bract, the true flowers are small, violet-blue blooms that emerge from the sides of the quill, creating a stunning color contrast.

Native to the tropical rainforests of Ecuador, this plant is an epiphyte in its natural habitat. This means it often grows perched on trees, absorbing moisture and nutrients through its leaves rather than relying solely on a traditional root system.

  • Bright, indirect light is essential for encouraging a good bloom and maintaining the silvery-banded color. Too little light dulls the leaf color; direct sun will burn the foliage.

Prefers to be kept consistently moist but not waterlogged. You can water the soil or mist the leaves, as it absorbs moisture like an air plant.

Requires a very well-draining mix. A blend of peat moss, orchid bark, and perlite (or a specific Bromeliad/Orchid mix) is ideal.

Prefers warm environments, ideally between 18°C and 27°C. Avoid letting temperatures drop below 10°C.

  • Suitable for outdoor growth in Zones 9–11; otherwise, it is best kept as an indoor houseplant.
