Astrophytum Ornatum is the largest and tallest species of the genus Astrophytum. It has a solitary globular to cylindrical stem with 5 to 10 ribs and numerous white woolly flakes for protection from the sun.
It grows up to 6.6 feet (2 m) tall and up to 1 foot (30 cm) in diameter.
Flowers are canary yellow and appear throughout the summer.
All of the plants may be shipped bare root. -
Plenty of direct sunlight.
Porous, gritty and well-drained potting soil.
Water moderately in the summer but keep the cactus completely dry in the winter when temperatures are from 40 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit (5 to 15 degrees Celsius).
Feed with a cactus food every 1-2 weeks during the growing season in the spring. -
