Aralia Fabian Stump 'Polyscias Scutellaria'

  • The Aralia Fabian Stump (Polyscias scutellaria 'Fabian') is an evergreen shrub with an upright, columnar growth habit, often cultivated to look like a miniature tree or bonsai due to its sturdy, visible trunk. This plant is native to the Southwest Pacific Islands and Southeast Asia, where it thrives in warm, tropical climates.

The leaves are round, glossy, and deep green on the surface, often displaying a striking maroon or purplish underside, adding rich color contrast to its architectural form. It is also noted in Feng Shui practices for promoting a sense of calmness and love energy.

While it can produce small white flowers in its native outdoor environment, flowering is rare when grown indoors as a houseplant.

  • Bright, indirect light is ideal. It can tolerate medium light but will grow slower. Avoid harsh, direct midday sun, which can scorch the leaves.

Allow the top 1-2 inches of soil to dry out between waterings. Water thoroughly until it drains, then discard excess. Reduce watering in winter.

    Use a well-draining potting mix.

It prefers temperatures between 65°F and 80°F (18°C to 27°C).

  • USDA Zone 10-12

    USDA Zone 9b: to -3.8 °C (25 °F)

    USDA Zone 10a: to -1.1 °C (30 °F)

    USDA Zone 10b: to 1.7 °C (35 °F)

    USDA Zone 11: above 4.5 °C (40 °F)
