Anacampseros rufescens Sand Rose

  •  Sand Rose (Anacampseros rufescens) forms tight, spiraling rosettes of pointed leaves with beautiful two-tone color. The top of each leaf is olive green, while the underside is deep wine red. In bright light, the red tones become even richer. Fine white filaments grow from the center of the rosette, giving the plant a soft, delicate look and helping it hold moisture in dry conditions.
This plant stays small in pots but can slowly spread to form a mat. It may send up a short flower stalk with a single, large, bright pink bloom that opens in the afternoon and closes at night. It prefers bright light and well-draining soil. It can handle slightly more water than many succulents, and its leaves will wrinkle gently when it needs watering.

  • Bright Indoor Light, Full Sun.
Gritty, well-draining soil is essential. Use a cactus and succulent mix with 70%-80% mineral grit such as coarse sand, pumice, or perlite.

Water infrequently. Allow soil to dry out completely between waterings. Avoid letting water sit in the rosette to prevent rot.
